The Faculty of Mechanical and Precision Instrument Engineering is a multidisciplinary institute with a 50-year involvement in various fields of machinery, optics, electron, precision instrument, information science and technology and industry's art design. Among them, Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation is honored as the Famous-Brand Specialty of Shaanxi Province. This Faculty boasts 3 laboratories: Mechanical Equipment Key Laboratory of Shaanxi Province, Quality Supervising and Inspecting Center for Domestic Machine Tools, and Northwest Technical Supervising and Educational Center. And it owns over 100 sets large-sized advanced equipments including six-DOF serial-parallel new concept machining machine tools and dual-frequency laser interferometers. The Faculty of Mechanical and Precision Instrument Engineering also has an Innovative Education Training Center including a Mechanical Design Base, a Pottery Art and Model Workroom, and a Solidedge Application Training Center.

The Faculty of Mechanical and Precision Instrument Engineering consists of 3 departments and 4 experimental centers. This faculty offers 7 programs for doctoral degree ，1 post-doc research program, 9 programs for master's degree, 2 programs for engineering master's degree of Mechanical Engineering and Instrument Meter Engineering, and 5 programs for bachelor's degree.

In this faculty, there are 24 professors, and 41 associate professors, 148 doctoral students, 519 postgraduates and 2213 undergraduates.
